Pilot in India with 4 educational institutions in Hyderabad. Includes identification of auditors among students, training on RTI and social audit procedures, presentation of findings before the stakeholders and report. Pilot was initiated to institutionalize Social audits in all educational institutions. Social audit on the process of issuing post-matric scholarships and reimbursement of tuition fee.
The methodical verification of scholarships, records of students and the college and even the BC Welfare Department, threw up the usual issues, which infest scholarship distribution programme.
The four colleges that have volunteered to be part of this project are Sri Sarada College, Maharishi College, Mahaboobiya College and Nalla Malla Reddy College
Inordinate delays in sanctioning of scholarships, acquiring salary or caste certificate from Mandal Revenue Officer, late submission of applications for scholarships by students and sometimes late submission of attendance report by the college, essential to reimburse tuition fee were the broad findings from the social audit. “Earlier, scholarships and reimbursement of tuition fee were affected by embezzlements. To curtail it and to bring in transparency, we have introduced this concept of making the stakeholders take up social audit.
